The Department of State Services (DSS) has refuted the allegation making the rounds on social media that Senator Dino Melaye was abducted by its personnel.
Mr Peter Afunanya, who is the Public Relations Officer of the DSS in a statement said that Dino was only transported to its medical center.
He said, “The Service wishes to state that the information, as being misrepresented by sections of the media, is far from the truth”.
Mr Afunanya insisted that there wasn’t any time the senator was abducted by the service.
“The fact is that it was the Police that brought him to the DSS facility after obtaining a 14-day detention warrant with effect from Jan.9.
“The aim of bringing him to the Service’s facility is to complement Police efforts in giving the Senator a deserved medical attention,” he said.
The service PRO said that the DSS took in Dino Melaye based on inter-agency relationship and medical ethics.
He added that the statement was necessary to clear the allegation that the senator was abducted by men in mask suspected to by operatives of the DSS from the police hospital.
“The DSS, therefore, reiterates and assures the public of its commitment to professionalism and respect for human rights in its operational engagements,” he said.
Confirming the report, DCP Jimoh Moshood, Police spokesman said Dino was moved for better medical care to the DSS facility.
